The Life in the Steppes of Mongolia

This amazing tour will open up new horizons on the Mongolian spiritual culture, as well as its natural and mineral wealth, by passing through the steppes and the immense Gobi Desert. This 10-day poetic and cultural journey includes visits to the monasteries, walks in the “singing dunes”, as well as camel trekking and other wonderful activities. You will be accompanied by a guide who will make you discover the most beautiful corners of this country.

 

ITINERARY

 

Day 1         Ulaanbaatar
Flight to Ulaanbaatar. In the next morning, we will arrive in the Mongolian Capital at 7 o'clock.

Day 2         Ulaanbaatar – Zorgol Khairkhan – Baga Gazriin Chuluu 
At 09:00 meeting with the guide in the hotel’ reception.
After the breakfast, we will depart to Zorgol Khairkhan. On the way, we will visit the ruins of the Manjusri Monastery, dating back to the 18th century. It includes rocks with paintings as well as, an impressive bronze cauldron of the eighteenth century, which make this site unique. After, we will arrive at the sacred Zorgol Khairkhan Mountain, the Mongol's sacred mountain which shelters many caves and water springs. Later, we will depart to Baga Gazriin Chuluu Mountains, a granite rock formation with historical caves. Here, we will admire the beautiful drawings and other cave inscriptions.

Day 3         Baga Gazriin Chuluu – Tsagaan Suvarga – Yol Valley – Dalanzadgad
Lost in the arid plains of Gobi Desert, we will discover the astonishing Tsagaan Suvarga Cliff with its original forms that carved by the erosion of the wind. For a very long time, this cliff has been revered by the locals, as well as, it was a source of inspiration, fear and respect.
Afterwards, we will head the Yol Valley by passing across the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. Here, we will explore the Yolyn Am Valley, a beautiful gorge with a river at the bottom, which remains frozen during most of the year. Later, we will have an opportunity to stroll in the beautiful canyon for 2 hours.

Day 4         Dalanzadgad – Nomgon – Khatanbulag
We will drive to Khanbogd Mount, which is situated in Galbyin Gobi Desert. It was once at the bottom of an ancient ocean, and that was the reason behind many important paleontological excavations which had set up here. On the way, we will pass by the gold and copper mine, recently discovered and exploited by a Canadian firm. There are many trucks traveling between the mines and the Chinese border to transport these precious minerals.

Day 5         Khatanbulag – Dalanzadgad
Before noon, we will visit Demchig Temple, a historically important center for the spiritual monks. Upon the possibility, we will head to Oyu Tolgoi Mine. Later, we will hike in the small Forest of Saxoul and through the mysterious rocks formations of Gobi Desert. Also, we will explore the surroundings of the Oyu Tolgoi Gold Mine.

Day 6         Dalanzadgad – Khongor Sand Dunes 
The trip will continue to the spectacular “Singing Dunes”, which form a set of sand dunes lined with a small green oasis. It is the largest group of sand dunes in Mongolia with a length more than 190 km.

Day 7         Khongor Sand Dunes
In the morning, we will stroll along the sand dunes and the fascinating oasis. Here, we will have a chance to enjoy a camel trekking. Later, we will ascent by foot one of the dunes in order to admire the beautiful panoramic view of the desert.

Day 8         Khongor Sand Dunes – Bayanzag – Ong Monastery
Early in the morning, we will depart to Bayanzag and the Saxoul Forest. Here, we will discover the Forestamous tree in Gobi Desert and stroll around the shimmering cliffs in the ocher-red colors. This place became famous after the discovery of the paleontologist Roy Chapman for the remnants of bones and dinosaurs’ eggs in 1920. Later, we will arrive at the Ger Camp, which is located near the ruins of Ong Monastery.

Day 9         Ong Monastery – Karakorum
We will move to the ancient Capital - Karakorum. In 1220, Genghis Khan has left the women and the central administration during his military campaigns. We will visit Erdene Zuu, which is the oldest Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. The construction of this monastery was started in 1586 but it was completed only about 3 centuries later. The monastery complex consists of hundred temples, 300 yurts and more than 1000 monks.

Day 10       Karakorum – Ulaanbaatar
Return to the capital. Free time in the afternoon for individual discoveries.
Preparations for departure. Overnight at Kempinski Hotel.

Day 11      Return flight
Transfer to the airport. End of our services.
